Methods Time Measurement (MTM): 

MTM is a procedure that analyses manual operations or methods into basic motions needed to perform it, and assigns each a predetermined time based on the motion and environmental conditions.

This data and the application rules for the MTM system were refined, extended, defined, industrially tested and documented as a result of further work in later years. MTM is evolved from MTM-1 to MTM-2 to MTM-3 over a time. 
As a newbie to the Work Study, a common question comes in mind about variation of MTM-1, MTM-2 and MTM-3. A brief comparison of these three systems are shown in the following table.
